Welcome to the SEND section of our website. Here you will find all policies, documents, information reports, links, and resources to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do at Filey Junior School. It is threaded through all areas of school life and embedded into everyday practice. We offer a wide range of provision, which is carefully monitored, mapped, and planned for through our graduated approach to support each child’s individual needs.

At Filey Junior School, we believe that working closely with parents, carers, and pupils is key to ensuring every child receives the right support at the right time. We are committed to creating an environment where every child feels valued, understood, and able to succeed.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child, your first point of contact should be your child’s class teacher. They will work closely with you and Mrs Grice (the SENDCo) to identify and address any barriers to learning, ensuring your child receives the support they need to thrive.

If your child is already on the SEND register, you will be invited to three formal review meetings each year to discuss your child’s progress, development, and the support in place. In addition to these meetings, we also offer informal opportunities for families to come together, including coffee mornings and other chances to meet with school staff. This reflects our commitment to placing children and families at the heart of our provision.

We recognise that every child’s needs are different, and support may be provided in a variety of ways depending on individual circumstances. Through our graduated approach, provision is carefully mapped, monitored and reviewed to ensure that support remains appropriate, effective, and responsive.

SEND - Local Offer

All North Yorkshire maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND.)   They are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, whatever their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school.   The Local Authority publishes its Local Offer which provides information for children and young people with special educational needs (SEND) and their parents or carers in a single place.
